HISTORY

Richard Berger has been a professional wrestling fan since New Years Eve, 1958. This discovery was purely accidental, but the effects have been everlasting. Growing up in Los Angeles, which was at various times NWA and WWA territory, he got his education at the feet of announcing legend, Dick Lane.

After moving to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1974, he eventually began working for the Foothills Athletic Club, the parent company that ran Stampede Wrestling out of its Calgary headquarters. In the mid-1980s, Richard took on the duties of media relations for B.C. His job included writing and recording radio spots for upcoming events, designing print advertising, ring announcing and various other duties. It was through this association that he came to know, love and respect members of the Hart family.

In the late 1990s, Richard turned his attention towards advancing his writing and editing career. He first developed his reputation as a wrestling columnist for The Bagpipe Report. Not long thereafter, he was recruited to write a regular column and occasional feature articles for the neophyte publication, WOW (World of Wrestling) Magazine. This is where he flourished as "The Old-timer." He also produced a weekly version of "The Old-timer" for IGN.com.

Richard is currently writing a book that he hopes to have available by 2009. He also enjoys writing and editing subjects that are separate from the world of wrestling, and is always interested in new opportunities and challenges as a writer and editor.
